How Does Freeform Injection Molding Works

Print. Injection. Dissolve.

With Freeform Injection Molding, you receive a tool-ready component in three short steps, which can be produced in an average of two days from CAD to injection-molded component.

PRINT

The Nexa3D platform specializes in the production of injection molds. High precision, tight tolerances and unprecedented design freedom are made possible by the unique dissolvable resins such as x Mold.

INJECTION

Freeform Injection mold can be used on any injection molding machine with pressure up to 2500 bar and maximum melting temperature of 450°C. The injection mold are compatible with all conventional injection molding materials such as composites, thermoplastics, elastomers (TPE) silicones (LSR) ceramics (CIM) and metals (MIM).

DISSOLVE

The main pre-requisite for Freeform Injection mold is the soluble injection molds. Instead of ejecting the part from the injection molds as with conventional demolding, each injection mold dissolves to release the injection-molded part. In this unique process, the filled injection mold is gently immersed in an alkaline water solution for approx. 12-48 hours.

Freeform Injection Molding

Combining design freedom of resin 3D printing with mechanical performance of injection molding plastics

Rapid Tooling

Powered By xMOLD Resin

The patented Freeform Injection Molding (FIM) process uses ultrafast Nexa3D printers and xMOLD resin to print injection molding tools that are compatible with thousands of off-the-shelf injection molding materials, including reinforced high-performance feedstocks. The ability to design, iterate, and validate using final grade production materials in hours versus weeks is invaluable in any product development process.

Dissolvable Tooling

Powered By xMOLD Resin

The FIM process produces fully soluble tools, enabling true design freedom and eliminating the need for time consuming design and gating considerations typically associated with conventional tooling process. You can quickly design and print tools for highly complex parts, inject with injection molding feedstock, and then dissolve away the tool to reveal the complex shape underneath.

CAD To Tool In Hours

Combining the speed and throughput of Nexa3D’s LSPc printers with the flexibility of xMOLD resin you can go from design to complex tooling in a matter of hours. Accelerate your design cycles, slash your R&D costs, and get to market faster with digital tooling from Nexa3D.
